Party convener Mike Crockart has been selected to defend the Edinburgh West seat at the next General Election. With a 92% turnout, the threshold to win was also high, leading the result to be reckoned after the third round. In the end, Mike won by 20 votes, ahead of second-placed Paul Edie.
After the result Mike said: “I am delighted with the result and feel honoured to have been chosen to follow the likes of Donald Gorrie and John Barrett. What's clear, however, is that the work starts here and now. Just as I did not take your support for granted during this selection contest, I intend to fight for every possible vote over the coming months. I look forward to campaigning alongside you all and hope that I can catch up with as many of you as possible at the coming AGM so I can thank each of you in person.”
John Barrett commented: “Mike’s selection is the start of our General Election campaign. I am confident that he will be an excellent candidate and then a first-class MP for Edinburgh West. I am looking forward to working with Mike in the months ahead and would encourage everyone to do what they can to give him the level of support I have been fortunate to have had for many years.”
