Lib Dems fights to protect Corstorphine Hill

23 February 2010

Local Lib Dem Councillor Paul Edie has persuaded the Council to look at further protecting Corstorphine Hill Local Nature Reserve. Currently the woods enjoy the protection of planning designation as a Local Nature Reserve but in spite of that they have faced threats of development over the years from the Zoo and Scottish Water. Cllr Edie has asked the Council to investigate entering into an Agreement with Fields in Trust (formerly the National Playing Fields Association) which would protect the Woods in perpetuity. Commenting Paul said “We have seen how easily a Planning designation such as Green Belt can be over turned when the Zoo applied to get several acres of its land re zoned for Housing. I think the protection for this immensely important green space needs to be beefed up."
