Lib Dems both at Westminster and Holyrood have unveiled tax cut plans to help hard pressed families. The Scottish Liberal Democrats believe that, as families across Scotland are having to tighten their belts because of the current economic climate, the Scottish Government should do the same.
John Barrett MP commented: “Nick Clegg was the first UK leader to propose tax cuts to help families. David Cameron and Gordon Brown have finally caught up and promised to support tax cuts to boost the economy. I hope this will mean that the Scottish Labour and the Conservative MSPs will support our plans for tax cuts in Scotland.”
Margaret Smith MSP said: “We want to see income tax cut by two pence in the pound. Cutting income tax in Scotland by two pence in the pound would mean that the average Scot would have around £333 on their annual tax bill. It would ease the financial burden of some 178,000 residents across Edinburgh.”
